Archaeology policy
The soil in our municipality contains archaeological traces that offer valuable insights into the lives of our ancestors. That is why we want to treat the archaeological heritage in the ground with care. For this reason, we have developed an archaeological expectations and values map(external link), including the accompanying policy(external link).
The Archaeological Values and Expectations Map
The archaeological map indicates the locations where there is a high probability of archaeological remains in the ground. This information helps us better protect our cultural heritage and make sound decisions. We are required to protect archaeological remains.
Heritage as an opportunity
We view heritage not only as a responsibility, but also as an opportunity. Heritage—including archaeology—helps give the municipality its own unique character. It connects the past, present, and future. And it makes the living environment more attractive and tells the story of our municipality in times gone by.
Inclusion in the Environmental Plan
The archaeological potential map and the accompanying policy are included in the environmental plan. As a result, we impose conditions on permit applications, such as the requirement to conduct archaeological research.
