On Tuesday, June 23, the community dialogue took place. During this evening event, we presented the draft urban development plan. Attendees also had the opportunity to provide feedback on the design. This feedback will be incorporated into the final urban development plan.

Comments and Responses to the Public Consultation

A meeting will be held this fall to present the final urban development plan.

Late last year, the Gemert-Bakel municipal council decided that the new building of the Commanderij College Macropedius will be realized on the Time Out site. The new school will allow the municipality to maintain and strengthen a good educational facility at havo/vwo level. In recent months steps have been taken in the continuation of the project.

Elaborate plan

With the council decision, the project has entered a new phase: the municipality and the school are working to further develop the plan. The new school can accommodate 1,200 students and will have modern classrooms as well as a sports hall and outdoor sports fields. The other part of the site will be developed by Keizersberg Realty. The municipality is working with Keizersberg Vastgoed to jointly design the entire planning area. This plan includes not only the buildings, but also issues such as traffic, (bicycle) parking, greenery, water, health and safety.

Construction planning

The current building of the Commanderij College Macropedius is over fifty years old and technically outdated. New construction is necessary to maintain modern and future-proof secondary education in Gemert. With the new building, the municipality of Gemert-Bakel contributes to the attractiveness and livability of the municipality and to the regional scale. Construction is expected to start at the end of 2027. Completion of the school is scheduled for 2029.

Gemert-Bakel council chooses Time Out location for new Macropedius building

The municipal council of Gemert-Bakel has decided that the new building of the Commanderij College Macropedius will be realized at the Time Out location. This follows the proposal of the municipal executive. It previously expressed its preference for new construction of the secondary school at this location. Thanks to the council's decision, the municipality can maintain and strengthen a good educational facility at the havo/vwo level. Mayor Van Veen, chairman of the municipal council, spoke of "a historic decision for Gemert-Bakel."

In recent months, research has shown that the Time Out site is the best place for new construction of the Macropedius. Other locations included in the study were Sportpark Molenbroek and Sleutelbosch (current location of the school). The study was conducted by research firm Laride in collaboration with consulting firms TAUW and Goudappel. The study looked at safety and accessibility, water storage, spatial integration and costs, among other things.

Future-proof

The current building of the Commanderij College Macropedius is over fifty years old and technically outdated. In the Integral Housing Plan (IHP) in 2024, the municipal council made budget available to realize new construction of the Macropedius. This decision provides clarity on the location of the new school. Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2027. Completion of the school is scheduled for 2029.
