A few years ago, MVC and TV De Mortel came up with the idea of joining forces. Both clubs shared many of the same responsibilities and relied on volunteers. By working together, these tasks can be carried out more efficiently. That is why, as of April 2026, the clubs will merge into a single new club: SV De Mortel.

New club requests redevelopment of sports complex

To further strengthen the partnership, both soccer and tennis members will use the soccer club’s clubhouse. The current tennis courts are also in need of renovation. For this reason, the club has drawn up a plan for a new layout of the sports park.

Under this plan, the current tennis courts will be removed and new courts will be added next to the clubhouse. This will bring soccer and tennis closer together, fostering greater collaboration and a more welcoming atmosphere within the club.

Jeroen van Oosterwijk (former president of the soccer club) notes that working groups have already fostered greater connection and collaboration between soccer and tennis. The working groups include members from both sports.

Funding for sports clubs

The municipality has allocated funds for this project. The city council approved a grant for this purpose in November 2025. A similar grant was previously awarded for the construction of a clubhouse for TV Handel and the Dubbel Dof Li boules club.

Last Saturday, volunteers began the initial work on installing the wiring for the sports field lighting. This marks the official start of the sports park’s renovation. The club hopes to be able to use the new tennis courts by the end of the year.

In the meantime, they can use the tennis courts in Bakel or Gemert for practices and matches. SV De Mortel also has plans for pickleball courts, a panna cage, and bocce courts. These facilities will be ready in the spring of 2027.
