Tourist tax

On the website of Belastingsamenwerking Oost-Brabant you will find a Digital desk(external link) where you can arrange all your local tax matters online. The municipality provides many facilities. Residents (registered) contribute to these through municipal taxes. Tourists (and other non-registered people) do so through the tourist tax.

If you offer overnight accommodation on a business basis and/or for a fee, you must pay tourist tax. You may charge the tourist tax to the person staying overnight with you. You then remit the tax to the municipality. The current rate per person per overnight stay can be found in the Ordinance on the levy and collection of tourist tax ( external link)

Rate

The rate is €1.65 per person per overnight stay.

Before you start offering overnight accommodation, you must report this to BSOB. Furthermore, you have the obligation to keep a night register. This is a continuous register with personal data of your visitors or tenants. You keep track of overnight stays on the form night register(external link). The municipal BOAs and an external company check for the municipality the maintenance of the night register, and the actual number of overnight stays. They may also visit your business for this purpose.

Are you an operator of a hotel, guest house, group accommodation, campground or Bed&Breakfast? And do you offer overnight stays for a fee to persons who are not registered in the municipality? Then you pay tourist tax. Inspections take place annually on a random basis. You may also receive an invitation for an inspection and information visit.

On behalf of the municipality, Adviesgroep Nederlandse Gemeenten (ANG) checks whether your (water) tourist tax return is correct and complete.

The municipality of Gemert-Bakel has adopted the digital night register as a compulsory model for the night register based on the Regulation on the levy and collection of tourist tax and for the night register based on the Penal Code and the General Municipal Regulation(external link).

It is possible to have guests register themselves in the digital night register of the municipality of Gemert-Bakel. This can be done by sending an e-mail to the guest himself or by applying a QR code at the accommodation location itself (for example, on the room or on the reception desk). You then only need to check that the registration has been completed correctly by the person present.
