NK Tile Tilting

This year, we’re participating in the NK Tile Flipping Competition. Together with Asten, Deurne, Someren, and Laarbeek, we’re part of the Brabantse Peeldorpen group. We’ll be competing against each other through October 31: who can flip the most tiles? With one shared goal: working together for green spaces.

Working Together for Green Spaces

Many gardens and streets are paved with tiles. That may seem convenient, but it also leads to flooding during heavy rainstorms and increased heat in the summer. More greenery helps: rainwater can drain away more effectively, the area stays cooler, and it’s more pleasant to be outside. With the NK Tegelwippen, the municipality is challenging residents to swap tiles for greenery. It doesn’t have to be a big or complicated project. Even removing just a few tiles makes a difference.

Who can flip the most tiles?

In the NK Tile Flipping Championship, the municipalities of the Peel region compete against one another. In the Brabant Peel Villages division, we as a municipality are trying to flip as many tiles as possible to outpace the other municipalities. The current tile count can be viewed on the Dutch Tile-Flipping Championship website(external link). This makes the competition exciting and motivates us to go the extra mile together. Every tile counts: for Gemert-Bakel and for a greener Peel region.

Here’s how to participate

Anyone can participate. Residents can replace tiles in their front or back yards, or, for example, create a small facade garden. Schools, businesses, and organizations can also green their grounds. The replaced tiles can easily be registered via the NK Tegelwippen website(external link).

Help Gemert-Bakel Win

Together, we’re making Gemert-Bakel greener, cooler, and a more pleasant place to live. Whether you replace just one tile or tackle an entire garden, every tile you replace helps our municipality move forward in the tile challenge. Join us!
